Class Descriptions
Dance with Me (Formerly Mommy or Daddy & Me): Ages 2 - 3 with parent
45 minute program incorporating song and dance. Tambourine dances - scarf dances - balance beam work and steps that develop a 2 year olds motor skills in a structured and nurturing environment. The class objective is to enhance the students gross motor skills and social development while creating fun memories.
Nursery Dance: Ages 3 - 4
This program consists of a class span of 45 minutes. This program is a creative movement class, with emphasize placed on having fun while learning coordination, balance, rhythm, and musical expression. The class consists of song and dance with ballet and tap movements. It is purely an amazing dance program filled with joy and fun.
Kinder Dance: Ages 4 - 5
40 minutes of ballet and 20 minutes of tap, overall an hour long class. Students start out in a happy friendship circle warming up their bodies. They then go to the barre and learn the basic ballet positions. After accomplishing what is needed to develop their legs and feet they leave the barre with a happy jumping song. They work on ballet skips, gallops, chaîné turns, ballet arms across the floor and in the center of the room. Next it is time to get down and change into our tap shoes.
Elementary Combo: Ages 5 - 6
One hour program with ballet and tap. After learning how to work the front and side parts of our body we will begin to work the back side of our body. Barre work will be a little longer. Chaîné turns, gallops to the front and side, chassés, piqués will be introduced and reviewed in this class. Tap at this level will become more challenging.
Intermediate Combo: Ages 6 - 8 with dance experience
One hour and thirty minute program. The program consists of ballet, tap, and jazz. This class helps the dancer to become more structured and focused, allowing dancers to experience "a little bit of everything."
Advanced Combo: Ages 7 - 8
Two hour program consisting of ballet, tap, and jazz/hip-hop. This class continues to build on the students foundation preparing them to study ballet, tap and jazz/hip hop independently.
Ballet: (Students of all ages-beginner through advanced. Will be assigned by director to class level where they will make the greatest progress.)
All classes are exposed to classical ballet as a serious and disciplined, but very spiritual dance form. The basic principal taught at all levels are proper turnout, correct head and arm placement, along with proper body alignment. Dancers develop self-discipline and beautiful posture. With its meticulous attention to technical detail, ballet is invaluable for any dancer including the social dancer.
Tap: (Students of all ages-beginner through advanced. Will be assigned by director to class level where they will make the greatest progress.)
Tap dancing is a technique consisting of footwork and the expression of rhythm through sound. Our classes consist of rhythm and Broadway tap. Technique, clarity, combinations and terminology are covered in this class. Besides being a great deal of fun, tap is an excellent way to promote cardiovascular health.
Jazz: (Students of all ages-beginner through advanced. Will be assigned by director to class level where they will make the greatest progress.)
A stylistic, energetic form of dance. Its roots come from ballet and modern technique with a twist. This class is popular with all ages and provides an added benefit of cardiovascular exercise due to the high level of energy exerted.
Contemporary: Ages 12 and up
This class begins with a warm-up which focuses on stretching, extensions, and isolations. The class continues with center work, including different types of turns and across the floor work. Focus is on connecting movements, and making the transitions between steps appear seamless. Each class ends with a choreographed combination, which will challenge the student to use all the elements together with a sense of style and presentation.
Lyrical: Ages 12 and up
A blend between ballet, jazz and modern. This class is truly a spiritual and emotional dance form. A class for the dancer who enjoys expressing themselves.
Pointe: (Placement is based upon the director's evaluation.)
Female dancers who are aspiring to dance en pointe should understand that a dancer is placed on pointe according to age/previous training. Dancers need to take a minimum of two ballet classes per week for consideration to begin pointe.
Tumbling: Ages 8 and up
Most commonly known as the floor portion of a gymnastics program. Tumbling classes include a warm up, strength training, & across the floor acrobatic tricks.
Hip Hop: Ages 8 and up
Hip hop is a high-energy dance combining jazz technique, street dancing, and some tumbling work to develop coordination and rhythm while dancing to the latest music.
Boys Only Hip Hop: Ages 8 and up
A class just for boys focusing on hip hop skills. This is a high-energy class that involves stunt and ground work. The class helps develop coordination and strength.
Competition Teams: Ages 6 and up
By invitation and audition only. Students are required to take additional classes, commit to traveling on weekends, and additional fees do apply. Please see director if interested in auditioning. Auditions typically are held late June.
